Overview of WIOA Adult Program

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was enacted to enhance workforce development and provide services to job seekers. The WIOA Adult program specifically focuses on assisting adults in obtaining employment and improving their job skills. This program is designed to help individuals who may face barriers to employment, such as low income or lack of skills.

To be eligible for the WIOA Adult program, individuals generally must meet the following criteria:

• ‍Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.

• ‍Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen or non-citizen authorized to work in the United States.

• ‍ Selective Service: Men born on or after January 1, 1960, must be registered with the Selective Service System, or meet specific exemptions.

• Priority of Service: While WIOA services are widely available, priority for individualized career services and training services is given to recipients of public assistance, other low-income individuals, and individuals who are basic skills deficient.
